Opt-Out of Selling for Specific Events Without Disrupting All Sales

Updated over a week ago

Choose Which Events To Sell For—No Blackout Needed

We’ve made it easier for you to manage event availability at your facility—without the limitations of full blackouts or complex workarounds.

Stop Selling for This Event

You now have the flexibility to opt out of selling parking for specific events—without affecting your ability to sell for transient parking or other events on the same day. And if you change your mind, you can start selling for that event again at any time with just a few clicks!

Example:

Let’s say you’ve set up rates for NFL games at your facility, but you don’t want to sell for a specific game (or games for a specific team), you can now easily mark that event as not for sale—without impacting the availability of your other event or transient rates that day.

Benefits:

  • ✅ More control over what events you sell for

  • ✅ Avoid accidental inventory sales

  • ✅ No more adjusting pricing or inventory as a workaround

  • ✅ Maintain sales for overlapping events or transient traffic

How to Stop Selling for An Event:

  1. Log in to the Control Panel and navigate to the Upcoming Events page through the Rates & Inventory drop-down menu.

  2. Find the specific event you do not want to sell parking for.

  3. Click the three dots in the far right column titled “Edit Event”

  4. Select “Stop Selling for This Event” to stop further sales.

    1. Note: You may already have reservations booked under this event rate prior to opting out. These reservations must still be honored. If you're unable to accommodate them, please contact eventsupport@spothero.com as soon as possible.

  5. You will be asked whether you would like to continue selling other rates for overlapping event(s) and/or transient rates OR set a blackout during the selected event’s timeframe to prevent any new sales.

    1. Continuing to sell other rates is recommended. Unless you’re unable to accommodate online reservations during the selected event timeframe, we recommend keeping transient and/or other event rates available to continue driving incremental revenue.

    2. Blackout all sales - What’s Impacted?A blackout blocks new reservations from being booked during the selected event timeframe, including any offsets before and after the event. All reservation types are impacted, except for monthly bookings. In other words, overlapping event(s) and transient rates will also be impacted by a blackout.

      1. Note: Existing reservations overlapping the blackout period will remain unaffected.

🎉 That’s it! You’ll still be available for any other overlapping events or transient rates on the same day unless you choose to set a blackout.

Event Sales Statuses

You also now get a clearer view into event sales status across the board. You can easily see if a location is set to not sell for an event, already sold out for an event, has a blackout set, and more!

Event status reflects whether drivers can currently reserve a spot at your facility at the event rate through SpotHero. The following are the status options:

  • For Sale: Spots are available for drivers to reserve at the listed event rate on SpotHero.

  • Not For Sale: Spots are not available for drivers to reserve at the event rate. This happens when you choose to stop selling parking for a specific event.
Note: Event statuses can be updated at any time. You must honor any existing reservations made before sales were stopped.

  • Outside HOO: Spots are not available because the event’s start or end times fall outside your facility’s bookable hours of operation. Contact eventsupport@spothero.com if you want to enable sales for this event.

  • Sold Out: All allotted inventory has been reserved.
Tip: To continue selling, add more inventory for the event.

  • Blackout: Spots are not available due to a blackout.
Note: You must honor any existing reservations made before the blackout was created.

Keep in Mind:

If you've opted out of selling for an event or set a blackout, you may still see the count of spots sold out of total available inventory in the Inventory Utilization column above zero—or even increasing. This is expected behavior, not a technical issue.

  • Existing Reservations: The count may reflect reservations made before you stopped selling for the event or applied a blackout.

  • Overlapping Rates: All rate types—except monthly—share the same inventory pool. If you’re still selling for other events or for transient parking, those sales will continue to draw from your total available inventory.
